General Summary: The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Reference Services Librarian, Assistant Professor of Library Science. This full time, tenure track position will be responsible for offering general library instruction; teaching library credit and instruction classes; providing reference and circulation assistance at the Information Desk; serving as collection development selector. Normal work hours are Sunday-Thursday afternoon/evenings with occasional adjustments for breaks and intersession. Reports to the Collection Management Librarian & Coordinator of Information Services on the Dahlonega campus. Other duties to include reference, research, and library instruction as needed, in-person, by telephone, or electronically to students, faculty, staff, and the community. Additionally, provides library collection development services to faculty and others in assigned subject areas.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The Reference Services Librarian will:
  • Provide reference, circulation and general assistance for students, faculty, and the community at the Information Desk and remote reference assistance for other campuses as needed.
  • Design, develop, deliver, and market library instruction classes, workshops, and research consultations. Collaborate with faculty and committees in achieving information literacy learning outcomes. Collaborate with faculty and teaching staff in library instruction.
  • Provide library collection development services to faculty and others in assigned subject areas. Market and promote library collections to faculty, students and others.
  • Develop, assist, and promote library sponsored events, displays, promotional materials, and other marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Represent the library and/or university at campus, local, state, regional, and national meetings and conferences. Work with campus partners across multiple academic units through service on committees, publications or presentations, holding office, and active participation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Superior knowledge of library resources
  • Successful classroom teaching or other library instruction experience
  • High level of competence with computers, integrated library systems, and instructional technologies and ability to adapt to changing technologies quickly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong commitment to teaching and to students
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Capable of dealing tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the community

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of professional library experience, academic library preferred
