Primary responsibilities will include teaching Microbiology and/or Cellular and Molecular Biology.

The Department of Biology and Physical Sciences offers a baccalaureate degree in Biology, and provides service courses to support associate degree and baccalaureate degree programs in nursing and allied health, as well as general education courses. There are currently 21 tenure-track faculty members in the department.

Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, in 2006 Gordon was named a state college began developing selected four year programs that address critical state needs. Subsequently the College has launched baccalaureate majors in Biology, Education, English, Health Information Management, History, Human Services, Management and Administration, Mathematics, and Nursing. Gordon State College serves approximately 4000 students and has more than 120 full-time faculty.

The main campus of Gordon State College is in Barnesville, Georgia. Located approximately one hour south of Atlanta, students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctorate in biological sciences field is required. Candidate must have educational background to teach major’s Introductory Biology, Microbiology, and/or Cellular and Molecular Biology. Preference given to applicants with experience in teaching Microbiology and/or Cellular and Molecular Biology. Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students and facilitate student learning is required. Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills are necessary for the position. Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology is required. Preferred candidate will be flexible, highly motivated, and enthusiastic about student success.
