The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, an NCAA Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship for 2017-18 and 2018-19.  This is a full-time, ten-month administrative position with benefits.

Description of Responsibilities:  The Intercollegiate Athletics – Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will spend 50% of the time working directly with athletic communications, 25% promoting the athletics programs through four different social media platforms, 15% helping with other administrative duties such as scheduling, marketing and special events, and 10% focusing on special projects of their interest. A break out of each duty under the specific area can be found below:

  • Athletic Communication:  Assist in daily office duties, help manage student workers, create department documents, assist with game-day management, provide statistics and work with student media organizations.
  • Social Media Coordinator:  Help maintain social media platforms for athletics department, coordinate student workers updating social media, create and run social media contests, coordinate social media with other groups on campus.
  • Administrative:  Assist with scheduling, help develop department promotions and special events, and research Athletic Hall of Fame nominees.

In addition, will be expected to display a commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience managing college department social media platforms
  • Athletic communication experience
  • Must meet the required minimum qualifications for this grant

Preferred qualifications:

  • Familiarity with shooting video and video editing software
  • Familiarity with the Automated Scorebook/Stat Crew software
  • Familiarity with website content management systems, specifically SIDEARM Sports
