The College of Education invites highly qualified applicants for the position of Director of the Masters of Arts in Teaching Program at Towson University. The Director of the MAT Programs facilitates and coordinates the program with the Departments of Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education and Secondary/Middle Education. The primary role of the director is leadership and management activities to create an effective and efficient learning academic unit.


EdD or PhD and/or comparable experience, significant PK-12 experience required, particularly experienced in leadership roles. Prior experience in higher education; curriculum development; budgeting. Holds teaching license with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience. Expertise in teaching and mentoring emerging teachers for diverse and inclusive classrooms. Commitment to preparing teachers who are advocates for social justice and equity. Demonstrate record of scholarship, grant/contract efforts, and evidence of collaboration with PK-12 schools as well as working with external agencies including the Maryland State Department of Education.


Ensuring that the needs of the students in the MAT Programs are supported by the programs, departments, and that the general education courses delivered by the applicable departments. Provide support for continual professional and personal growth of departmental colleagues; Foster and facilitate appropriate change and planning; promote scholarship and clinical expertise for advancement of the discipline. Continual communication and collaboration with chairpersons and coordinators of College of Education Programs.

The MAT Director serves as an advocate for the academic mission, values, and needs of the MAT Programs, the College of Education and Towson University and maintains the standards required for highly qualified and effective graduates of the MAT Program.
