Director of the Ferguson Career Center
Hampden-Sydney College is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Director of the Ferguson Career Center. The career education office educates Hampden-Sydney men in all aspects of their career and professional development process in order to achieve success in life after College. This educational process includes on-going self-assessment and vocational reflection to identify their passions, purpose, and calling; exploring various career paths; developing job search skills; seeking experiential learning opportunities; learning to network; and pursuing employment and graduate school opportunities. The new director will begin work in a brand new career center opening in the College’s new student center. The Director plans, directs, promotes, and administers the programs for the Ferguson Career Center which incorporates the following: hiring and supervision of the staff; career planning and counseling; graduate school advising; internship and job recruiting; and other aspects of a comprehensive career education program. The Director plans and conducts ambitious and energetic marketing efforts for career education activities designed to educate and prepare students, throughout their collegiate careers, for work and professional life beyond graduation. Additionally, the Director will work within Hampden-Sydney’s famous alumni network to develop internship and career opportunities for our students. The Director will be familiar with emerging practices in career development, demonstrated skill in staff supervision, budget management, strategic planning, assessment and learning outcomes and career-services technology. The ability to collaborate with faculty and staff working in all areas of the College’s operation is essential. The successful candidate will be adept at integrating curricular and co-curricular programs, agile in adapting to new developments both at Hampden-Sydney and in employment and other post-graduate opportunities for students. The Director will be committed to achieving creditable, measurable results for our students.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree required; 5 – 8 years previous experience in career counseling and planning, human resources management, or a high level comparable administrative position – or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Director must be energetic, visionary, persistent, charismatic, persuasive and engaging with strong oral and written communication skills.
