This is a part time 20 hours a week opportunity.

DGHI is seeking a part-time (20/hrs wk) web developer to manage DGHI's existing web presences and new website development. Responsibilities include maintaining functionality of the DGHI website and micro-sites created for DGHI partners in our Wordpress network. This person will work closely with the Web Manager to ensure that current systems are working well, troubleshoots technical issues, works with OIT at Duke and outside web developers, and is responsible for the technical aspects of creating new websites as needed by the Institute. Ensures digital communications work correctly with current standards, and meet the needs of our users. Creates new functionalities within the existing content management systems in consultation our internal team. Reports to the Web Manager at the Duke Global Health Institute.

Work performed
  • Website development and the ability to implement themes and plugins for sites/blogs in the Wordpress network for subgroups,affiliated centers, programs or task forces; ability to change look and feel and layout of a theme to match design developed by Web Manager.
  • Work with OIT and Web Services on updating, security, management of the network and websites; install and manage plugins, keep systems up to date. Handle domain mapping as needed
  • Manage technical aspects of the DGHI site; Work with outside vendors on Drupal updates, content pulling from API's, being the liaison between outside vendors and OIT on server needs, updates, issues. (Annual report sites, etc.)
  • Implement coding for new functionalities and interface with Duke or DGHI databases, etc.
  • Monitor website usage trends and report statistics on usage.
  • Effectively manage, warehouse and catalog web site content assets.
  • Research and advocate for current standards to increase effectiveness and efficiency of digital spaces.
  • Support staff with technical issues or questions related to Constant Contact or MailChimp. Understand system abilities, requirements, best practices to ensure highest delivery rate.
  • Thoroughly document procedures and policies related to development of DGHI digital technologies (e.g. updates, backups, archiving, maintenance, access rights, etc.).

Requirements
  • Experience in Wordpress site development and theming (Drupal experience a plus)
  • Ability to take a design from a Photoshop mockup, to a theme in Wordpress
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and minimum of 2 years related experience in web development and programming, with a foundation in PHP, MySQL, Javascript, HTML, XML, and CSS
  • Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter who works well independently as well as in a team environment

Education

BA or BS in journalism, marketing, English, graphic design or related field.

Experience

A minimum of 2 years applicable experience required. Graphic experience or background preferred. Proficiency with PC based environment in all Microsoft office products, HTML, Dreamweaver, Java Script, Acrobat, and some type of image editing product (Photoshop, etc.).
