Job Description
The Texas Prefreshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) identifies achieving middle and high school students with an interest in engineering, science, technology, and other mathematics-related areas and strengthens their potential for careers in these fields. TexPREP is a collaborative effort of colleges and universities located throughout Texas, that encourages students to begin preparing early for scientific and engineering career paths in school. With a focus on building a high quality and diverse 21st century workforce, women and members of minority groups, traditionally underrepresented in these areas, continue to serve as special target groups.

We are seeking skilled program instructors for TexPrep 2017 between June 6th and July 21st, 2017. Skilled individuals with mathematics and science teaching experience are preferred. Course subjects include: Introduction to Engineering, Logic, Introduction to Physics, Environmental Science and Statistics.

This is a temporary position supported by grant funding.

Program Instructors must be available eight (8) hours each weekday for the duration of the program and must:

• Attend daily staff meetings and/or planning sessions
• Formulate lesson plans from a set of PREP curriculum (provided on first day orientation), and in accordance with PREP objectives and philosophy.
• Prepare quizzes, tests, final examinations and other instruments
• Determine grades for students enrolled in their classes
• Be available for one-to-one tutoring before and after classes, as needed or requested
• Assist with PREP special activities related to the academic components of the program
• Work with program assistant/mentors daily to develop and coordinate lesson plans and educational support activities for effective instruction
• Perform other duties as assigned by site director or program coordinator (Instructional materials for all classes will be provided to the teaching staff)

Minimum Qualifications
• Completion of a bachelor's degree in a field related to one of the subject areas (mathematics, science, technology, engineering, English)
• Prior experience working with middle and high school students
• Commitment and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.
• Available to work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily between June 6th and July 21st.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
• Teacher certification

Physical requirements necessary to perform essential job functions
Work requires some muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as standing for long periods of time, recurring bending, or recurring lifting or items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. between June 6th and July 21st.
