The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a non-tenure track position in the area of Translational Biomedical Research, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2017 or thereafter. The position will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with the Associate Professor level considered for candidates with an excellent track record in leading translational research programs, teaching translational research courses, and obtaining external funding for programmatic activities in translational research. 

Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. The site of the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment, the university is associated with 16 Nobel laureates. The Case School of Engineering (CSE) actively promotes interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes primarily focused on materials, health care, and energy. The Department of Biomedical Engineering was one of the original BME programs (founded 1968), and is home to 28 tenure-track faculty, over 150 graduate students and approximately 500 undergraduate students. Its faculty are international research leaders in biomaterials and nanomedicine, imaging, neural engineering, and computational imaging and personalized diagnostics. The BME department is also home to the endowed Case-Coulter Translational Research Partnership that promotes translational research and supports collaborative translational research projects to improve patient care and accelerate the delivery of healthcare technology from academia to the marketplace

We seek outstanding candidates who demonstrate a clear vision and plan to successfully lead the overall translational research outreach activities of the BME department. This includes serving as the Coulter Program Director (CPD) of the Case-Coulter Translational Research Partnership (CCTRP), leading and participating in the teaching of courses focused on translational research for both students and faculty, and integrating with the innovation ecosystem across the university. The successful candidate is expected to assist BME and other CSE faculty in the development of competitive translational research proposals and in making appropriate commercial contacts in northeast Ohio and nationally, be the primary contact of the BME department to our external CCTRP Oversight Committee and to the CWRU Technology Transfer Office, manage the review of proposals for potential CCTRP projects, manage the finances of the CCTRP, supervise several staff members, and pursue public and private funding opportunities to support the translational research program in the BME department. A doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related Science/Engineering field is required. Direct experience in translational research principal investigator at a university or academic medical center, leadership of a translational research program, the establishment of a company, licensing of technology to existing companies, obtaining federal SBIR/STTR grants and/or private investments in a company, and similar entrepreneurial experiences are expected.
