Job Summary/Basic Function: Processes incoming archival and special collections materials using current national standards, creates online finding aids and MARC records, manages university archives additions, including online records and assists patrons with library research in person, by mail, e-mail and telephone.

Work Hours: Flexible scheduling required. Evenings and weekends may be necessary.

Processes incoming and existing collections to library and national standards, including re-boxing/re-foldering, creating finding aid and online finding aid. Updates library systems to include cataloging and uploading finding aid to appropriate online sources.

Assists patrons with the use of archives and special collections in person and via e-mail, mail, phone, chat and text.

Works with records manager and departmental records coordinators on the archiving of print and electronic documents and artifacts. Updates university archives finding aids as needed. Assists departments with the use of the university archives.

Physically maintains the collection, pulling and re-shelving materials used. Maintains reference and collection use statistics. Provides photocopy services. Works with external reproduction services as needed.

Qualifications

Education

Necessary Qualifications: ALA-accredited Master's degree or graduate degree in museum studies or a related discipline in the humanities or social sciences with formal training in archival theory and practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience

Necessary Qualifications: Experience arranging and describing manuscript and/or archival collections.

Experience creating metadata for archival collections, including online finding aids using EAD and DACS.

Experience providing reference assistance for archives and special collections in person, via e-mail and by phone.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a university archives setting.

Experience working with TARO, the Texas Archival Resources Online system.

Experience cataloging rare books.

Experience with digitization of archival collections, digital publications and records and records management principles and practices, particularly as they relate to university records.
