Posting Summary:
The Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia has an opening for a part-time Research Professor. Rank will be determined by candidate's experience and qualifications. ROMAC is an industrial research consortium which performs research in a broad range of application areas related to turbomachinery. The individual will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, graduate students and research professionals.

Candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with a strong background and experience in turbomachinery. Knowledge and experience in specific subjects such as rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, and computational modeling of rotating machinery is required. Industrial experience in the field of turbomachinery, particularly in the area of fluid-film bearing modeling and analysis is highly desirable.

Duties include directing graduate student research, leading the development of new computational methods based on a combination of commercial software and in-house development software. The successful candidate will interact with faculty, students, research professionals and representatives from the ROMAC member companies. The successful candidate will also be expected to attend professional meetings, give presentations at conferences as well as at ROMAC's Annual meeting, publish journal articles, and develop funding proposals. Funding is currently available for one year, with an anticipation of long-term funding.
