Job description

Duties: The Assistant Director will manage and oversee the execution of special projects, events, conferences, fellowships and training programs of Penn China-U.S. Global Leadership and China-U.S. Partnerships for Educational Advancement and Cultural Exchange (PEACE) initiative, and will lead, develop, and maintain the China-U.S. PEACE student and alumni society that represents Penn's 2,100 Chinese national students.

The Assistant Director will work with the directors to implement all aspects of the Global Leadership and Problem Solving (GLPS) programs operated in partnership with Fox Leadership International (FLI) and LPS, including a summer residential global leadership program for Chinese undergraduates, and a year-round academic degree-granting program. Functions as co-instructor and chief student contact in FLI-LPS Global Leadership and Problem-Solving summer programs and MLA program.

The Assistant Director will serve as the primary liaison for Fox Leadership International with Mandarin and Cantonese speaking higher education and business executives; develops key relationships; coordinates international travel for Fox Leadership International; manages conferences in China, and manages conferences at Penn involving delegations from China.

The Assistant Director will serve as the point of contact with Penn offices related to the operational functions of the Fox Program and Fox Leadership International such as IT, websites, event planning, and facilities. The Assistant Director will lead the project team in the development of publications and videos produced by the Fox Program including drafting documents and helping to design the reports

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A master's degree in public administration and a minimum of two years of work experience, preferably in a higher education setting, are required or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Assistant Director must be fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, and must have excellent computer skills including proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

The Assistant Director must have experience working in degree, certificate, or other university-based programs, preferably in both America and in China, that involve Chinese and/or American students in educational and cultural exchange initiatives that promote cross-national, problem-solving learning on issues such as energy sustainability or health care or eldercare services. Ability to travel internationally on an as needed basis is required. Some evening and weekend work is required.
