General Description:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Help Desk the Senior Audio Visual Technician serves a critical role in the Student Center Complex (Shalala Student Center, Whitten University Center, Rathskeller, Lakeside Patio/Stage, Foote Green, and the Rock Plaza), in overseeing the daily operation of audio-visual equipment and providing audio-visual expertise and assistance to all events and activities throughout the Complex. The Sr. Audio Visual Technician provides multi-media equipment and support to a wide variety of events including musical and theatrical performances as well as lectures.

Facility Description:
• The University Center (195,000 sq. ft.) was built in 1965 and has just undergone a significant refurbishment; the Shalala Student Center (119,000 sq. ft.) opened in fall 2013. In addition, the Student Center Complex includes an outdoor patio and stage, a breezeway for organization tabling, a double-Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool, and an outdoor venue for events and the University’s free-speech area (the “Rock”). Inside the UC are student organization offices, information window, lounges, and meeting rooms. The building is landlord to other UM departments, the Bookstore, and Dining Services food locations.
• The Shalala Student Center has retail spaces, a 24/7 study lounge, meeting rooms and a grand ballroom. It is home for the Department of Student Life and many student organization offices. In addition, the Rathskeller (a student operated programming space, restaurant, and pub) operates in the Shalala Student Center.

Duties and Responsibilities
Audio Visual and Event Support Responsibilities:
Event Support:
• Sets up and operates audio and video equipment, including integrated equipment in conjunction with SCC Operations Team staff.
• Responsible for operation of audio, video, lighting, and multi-media for events.
• Coordinate and facilitate audio visual resources with external customers and media, including facilitating live-stream video, recordings, and news feeds.
• Works with performers and presenters across a broad range of events and activities, including musical performances, lectures, and theatrical performances; Coordinates necessary equipment and oversees audio mixes and lighting.
• Responsible for setup, operation, and equipment used for live band performances including weekly performances by student and community performers.
• Provides walk-throughs and training to customers in the use of audio, video, and multi-media computer equipment including integrated equipment.

Daily Operations:
• Assist with the physical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the audio/video equipment and other multi-media equipment including inventory of cables and large sound equipment.
• Assist customers by providing on-site troubleshooting with SCC supplied and/or integrated equipment.
• Provides walk-throughs and training to Student Center Complex staff in the use of audio, video, and multi-media computer equipment.
• Works a flexible schedule with a minimum of 80 hours bi-weekly including evening, nights, and weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities:
• Position will provide eventual supervision to one full time Audio Visual Technician.
• Position provides supervision to student assistants.
• Assists supervisor in overall scheduling and direction of work for Audio Visual Technician and student assistants during daily operations and event support.
• Responsible for training, delegating assignments, and assessing quality of work.
• Responsible for providing event support requirements to assigned technicians.
• Respond to inquiries from Student Center Complex team, event organizers, and other relevant constituents via email, phone, or in-person.
• Update Student Center Complex team on audio-visual related projects, tasks, and related issues.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and walk-throughs as requested and required.
• Be familiar with and work within policies and procedures of the Student Center Complex.
• Assist Supervisor with projects, tasks, scheduling, and assessment of equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma.
• Minimum of three years demonstrated live sound/music engineering experience in an event driven environment; at least one year of experience supervising a full-time employee or student assistants in a technical environment,
• Audio engineering experience or similar to include band setups of various types including ability to setup, mic, and run a live band performance of various sizes and instrumentation.
• Experience with a variety of audio, visual, and multi-media equipment required.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends, as required.
• Will be required to be certified in operation and safe use of an electric scissor lift (University of Miami will provide training required).
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Excellent customer service skills required; Experience working with a variety of customers in a customer service environment required.
• Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull 75 lbs.
• Must be able to climb/reach.

Highly Desirable/Preferred:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• Three years of experience in an audio-visual or computer support department in a university and/or hospitality setting including audio/visual design, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Experience working with stage lighting, gobos, light blending, and lighting boards/consoles/software.
• Experience with Crestron, Extron, and/or other integrated audio/visual equipment and systems.
