Construction Assistant for Mohawk Valley YouthBuild (Part-Time, Grant-Funded)
A high school diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the construction field are required. Requirements also include:
A strong commitment to assisting youth to succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills and enable them to make a difference in their community;
Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of youth;
Understanding of the issues facing youth in the community and a willingness to learn from our youth;
Must be team-oriented and with a non-judgmental attitude;
Some travel is required. A valid driver license is required at the time of hire and for the duration of the appointment. This position is grant-funded through December 2017.
The Construction Assistant for Mohawk Valley YouthBuild (Grant-Funded) works collaboratively with Mohawk Valley YouthBuild’s Construction Instructor on a grant-funded project team to build youth leadership skills. The successful candidate will assist youth in the Mohawk Valley YouthBuild Program with all construction related programming. This position assists with providing youth with rigorous academic instruction, occupational skills, training, and viable pathways to college and careers. Duties also include, but are not limited to, the following:
Works with program participants on “hands-on” projects and provides conceptual and experiential training opportunities within the local community;
Supervises program participants at the construction worksite to ensure that program participants are following safety precautions;
Instructs program participants with the use of basic tools, materials and skills necessary for an entry-level job in the building trades;
Participates in project planning and decision making as part of the construction team;
Partners with local agencies on special events and projects;
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of the Education Center.
