Experience Requirement: Professional experience in the area of musical theatre is required. Qualified candidates should also possess a record of successful teaching and creative choreography. Knowledge of and the ability to teach a wide variety of musical theatre dance styles and dance repertoire are essential (all levels of ballet, jazz, and tap technique).

Usual Duties: Sam Houston State University Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre seeks a musical theatre teacher and choreographer with significant professional experience in dance, choreography, and musical theatre. This is a nine month tenure track position; salary competitive and commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will serve as a full-term faculty member in the Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre. Responsibilities include teaching musical theatre dance and service as resident choreographer for University productions as assigned. Other teaching assignments in theatre and musical theatre will be required based on education and experience. Service responsibilities include advising and mentoring students and participation on Department, College and University committees. The candidate must also maintain a profession record of distinguished research and/or create activity.

Degree Requirements: Candidates must have a terminal degree (MFA or PhD in Musical Theatre or dance) with a strong background in musical theatre dance.

Other Requirements for the Position: Essential to this position is the ability to work collaboratively as a team member in rehearsals and production; devising new curricula; and mentoring and advising students at the undergraduate level. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a variety of communities and cultures, and a commitment to encourage and support diversity is essential. Service is an integral aspect of the position, including advisement of musical theatre majors, active recruitment, participation in departmental meetings and activities, and service on committees at the departmental, college and university levels.
