The McIntire Department of Music at the University of Virginia seeks applications for the position of Assistant Director.

This position assists in the logistics and coaching in support of the activities relating to the Cavalier Marching Band, Basketball Band, Olympic Sports Band, Wind Ensemble and Concert. Responsibilities include providing drill writing and music arranging assistance for the Cavalier Marching Band, assist in the recruitment and retention of band member in all ensembles throughout the calendar year, assist in management of student leadership, coordinate and oversee set up, tear down and maintenance of equipment and conducting full ensembles and sections in both performances and rehearsals. This job entails supporting Assistant Athletic Bands Director with aspects of equipment inventory and purchasing. The candidate will be comfortable working in a team teaching environment and is expected to be at all rehearsals and performances of the Cavalier Marching Band, Men's Basketball Band, Women's Basketball Band, Olympic Sports Bands, Wind Ensemble and Concert Band unless otherwise assigned by the Director of Bands.

Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or related field and a valid Driver's License with a zero or positive point balance. A minimum of five years of Public/Private School teaching in music is required as is successful experience running a marching band & concert band program and experience working in a collaborative environment maintaining student/staff relationships, band parent relationships and relationships with school administration.

Successful experience arranging music for both winds and percussion, writing marching band drill, keeping inventory, and budget management and experience developing student leaders and evidence of professional development and collegiality is required.

Applicants must possess the ability to recruit, organize and coordinate pep bands in the NCAA Division I environment. Outstanding communication skills are required. The ability to work in the evenings, some holidays and weekends is also required. The ability to pass a driving test to drive the band's 40-foot box truck and to lift heavy equipment in excess of 100lbs is also required.

This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.
