About The Unit: UChicago Creative is composed of the creative services team within University Communications. Functioning as the in-house agency, UChicago Creative partners with departments and units across campus to create communications strategies and articulate the voice and vision of the University through a variety of media, including print, multimedia, social media, and websites. Unit Job Summary: The Producer for Multimedia is part of the multimedia team within UChicago Creative. The team's strategic goal is to partner with fellow communications staff and units across campus to create high-quality video and audio communications that advance the communications strategies and ultimately the research, teaching, and outreach mission of the University. Reporting to the Associate Director for Multimedia, the Producer will create video and audio for a wide variety of clients and initiatives. The Producer must demonstrate talent and skill in video and audio production within a creative team in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. He or she is expected to meet a high level of creative and production standards. Manage video and audio production: conceptualize story and scope, create estimates and budgets, develop scripts, shoot, edit, and design motion graphics. Collaborate with UChicago Creative staff to create innovative and compelling video to be viewed at events, on the web, on mobile devices, and through social media. Develop communication strategy for projects in collaboration with other UChicago Creative staff as well as colleagues within Communications. Assist and/or manage ISDN, broadcast studio, and webcast services. UChicago Creative's Producer is pivotal in developing and executing video and audio communications on time, on brand, and at the highest standard. The Producer is a creative storyteller; an avid problem solver able to unravel creative deadlocks and re-think processes; an organizer able to prioritize competing deadlines and tasks; and a voracious thinker able to understand and engage with academic topics and needs. Reporting to the Associate Director for Multimedia, the Producer collaborates with a team of producers, writers, and designers in creating content that furthers the initiatives of the University of Chicago. The Producer leads video and cross-functional projects, manages project teams when appropriate, and acts as an expert resource for creative, logistical, and project management needs. The Producer collaborates with fellow team members to ensure creative cohesion across all media, manages project budgets, ensures reliable multimedia production, resolves production challenges, and anticipates and responds to client needs. Responsibilities may include, and are not limited to, filming, editing, producing or assisting in producing: promotional videos, trailers, features, and documentaries; lectures, conferences, and large-scale live events; webcasts, ISDN interviews, and live network broadcasts. He or she should have a strong grasp of production workflow and the ability to develop creative executions, and mitigate errors by adhering to and upholding departmental quality control measures. UChicago Creative is made up of strategic and creative thinkers, and the Producer is an integral part of this team. Beyond the role's primary responsibilities, this person acts as an advisor and consultant on strategic communications for clients and partners across the University as well as an engaged team member working to advance UChicago Creative.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree required. Communications or multimedia related field preferred.

Unit Experience: At least 3 years of professional experience in multimedia production required. Skills in additional software, such as AfterEffects, Illustrator, Squeeze, Fetch, Fugu, and Toast Titanium preferred. Proficiency with design software preferred. Experience with project management tools (e.g., Function Fox, Basecamp) preferred. Familiarity with higher education technology, processes, and culture preferred. Note: in addition to a cover letter and resume, a portfolio of samples is required to be considered for this position.

Unit Job Function Competencies: High level of experience working in the field and in the studio with audio/video recording, editing, and production technology required, including professional-grade cameras, Canon C100 and / or the Sony EX-1, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro, and Photoshop. Be knowledgeable about interview and live event lighting set-ups required. Have experience with live camera operation required. Ability to problem solve audio, lighting, and video technical issues on the spot required. Ability to be a creative professional who will positively represent UChicago Creative required. Have an eye for detail and composition required. Be a creative partner who will add to the vision of a project while taking direction from the UChicago Creative team required. Ability to understand key target audiences, their needs, and their relative importance required. High level of creativity with the ability to create compelling audio and video communications required. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required. Ability to manage budgets successfully required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to engage with faculty research across a range of disciplines required. Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed required. Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs of production equipment required. Ability to travel as necessary required.
