Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, invites applications for an Associate Athletic Director for Budget and Finance.  This position will be responsible for oversight of the multi-million dollar athletic department operating and facilities budget.  Will be required to formulate the annual athletic budget by working with the athletic director, coaches, athletic department heads and the college’s central administrative units (including but not limited to the college’s budget office, division of financial services, institutional research, and office of financial aid) to prepare realistic income and expense budget estimates.  Responsible for overseeing execution of the annual athletic budget through supervision of the athletic business manager and overseeing all athletics accounts payable and receivable.

Other responsibilities include the management of contracts; coordinate with the senior associate athletic director supervising the head equipment manager to coordinate/negotiate the department-wide apparel contract and provide oversight of all apparel/equipment budgets; act as the liaison to the college’s procurement services division, payroll, and the treasurer to approve payroll, requisitions, travel vouchers, and internal payment requests; ensure deposits are made to appropriate income accounts.

This position provides oversight of all athletic budgets through preparation of budget execution reports and analyses and communication directly and regularly to the athletic director, coaches, athletic department heads, and other college officials; provide advice and technical assistance to the athletic director, coaches, and athletics department heads regarding compliance with budgetary best practices; establish financial policy for the department in accordance with college/state policies and procedures and other administrative best practices; provide administrative and analytical support to the athletic director regarding strategic opportunities and resource development; develops and implements budget and finance policies that help to ensure fiscal responsibility and optimize fiscal position across the department; coordinate with respective associate athletics directors and coaches regarding team travel; oversee football team travel by working with the head coaches and the director of sports medicine to plan and execute travel for football ; supervise and evaluate the athletic business manager.

  Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree ·         3-5 years of professional experience in a public budgeting/finance environment ·         Competency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and Power Point ·         Excellent communication skills and can-do attitude ·         Ability to lead ·         Ability to work towards institutional goals and deliver advice/solutions through diplomatic action and teamwork ·         Self-starting, proactive problem solver ·         Experience managing multiple, high profile/high impact projects in a demanding work environment ·         Experience delivering timely, high-profile work products to senior leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in public administration, public policy, business, higher education, or another related field ·         6-10 years of combined education/experience in public budgeting, finance, policy, higher education, and/or evaluation/policy research and analysis ·         Proficiency with IBM Cognos and Banner
