General Description of Position: The Department of Kinesiology seeks to fill a position as a full time Academic Advisor for students within the department.  This is a full-time faculty position that will provide service to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Kinesiology and Nutrition/Kinesiology. The individual is expected to: help students with setting academic and career goals; advise students to efficiently achieve academic requirements for post-graduation programs.   • Provide office hours to meet with students to regularly advise enrolled students regarding career objectives, and their professional school preparation

  • Meet with students to create an academic plan; engage students in continuing self-assessment and communicate witJ1 them as needed by phone, email, etc.

  • Assist students in transitioning to the academic environment and advocate for their success.

  • Collaborate with other advisors and faculty/staff to help provide a supportive academic environment for all students.

  • Write reference letters; assist students in developing and reviewing resumes, cover letters, statements of purpose, and other professional correspondence

  • Stays current in professional development activities as appropriate to professional role

  • Track student success in entering professional schools and post-graduation programs using appropriate technology

  • Perform other duties as needed to help with the academic success of students

  • Participate in recruitment events for the Department of Kinesiology

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • Must have one year of relevant experience
Additional Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent organization skills, to manage student information efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in multiple roles and to interact effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty, community members and employers

  • Demonstrated ability in using current technologies such as computer programs (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree in Kinesiology related field
  • Experience assisting students in searching for job and/or graduate/professional school opportunities

  • Experience in a higher education setting

  • Experience in academic advising and counseling

  • Experience in student services or related education/experience
