General Description of Position: Coordinate with faculty, students, and technologist regarding instrumentation for test setups and operation of testing equipment. Oversee care, maintenance, setup calibration and operation of experimental instrumentation for both on and off campus labs as well as classroom demonstrations. Create and maintain laboratory equipment and chemical inventory and maintain Civil Engineering department asset list. Develop laboratory equipment training program for the safe and proper use of research equipment. Driving to and from work sites and occasional pickup/delivery of miscellaneous items and equipment. Information: The Department: Established in 1907, the Department of Civil Engineering at Kansas State University has a rich tradition of teaching excellence coupled with interdisciplinary and collaborative research. The department offers an ABET accredited BS degree, as well as MS and PhD programs, and participates in the university’s off-campus master’s degree program. The department currently has 15 faculty positions, enrolls approximately 300 undergraduate students and 70 graduate students. Active research and teaching programs exist in the areas of environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation/materials, and water resources engineering. The department is currently housed in a new, state-of-the-art building (Fiedler Hall) with excellent laboratories for research and teaching. Must have two or more years of relevant work experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with computerized equipment control and data acquisition, ideally in the application of experimental testing Proficient in Word and Excel 2 years of experience in materials testing or associates degree in a related field Valid driver’s license BS or MS preferred Experience with MTS Experience in testing engineering materials Physical Activity: Working in a laboratory setting. Considerate care for testing equipment and precision instruments. Position requires moderate physical exertion to manipulate heavy and unwieldy components.
