Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field.
• Post-master’s full-time university housing or residence hall management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A minimum of 5 – 7 years of post-master’s full-time experience in a university setting.
• A minimum of 3 – 5 years of progressive experience supervising full-time professional housing staff (Hall Directors, Area Coordinators, etc.).
• Previous experience in budget development and management.
• Experience developing, implementing and evaluating the Residential Curriculum program model designed for college student personal growth and educational development.
• Experience working with formal living-learning opportunities for residents.
• Previous teaching experience, at the college level.
• Demonstrated understanding of comprehensive student development philosophy.
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with diverse student and staff population.
• Established skills in oral and written communications.
• Proven leadership abilities.

Job Description:
The Texas State University Department of Housing and Residential Life is searching for a student-centered professional to serve as the Associate Director for Residential Life and Education. The Associate Director will join an energetic professional team and will work closely with the Director of Housing and Residential Life and other senior administrative team members to lead the department towards achieving its goals and to uphold our mission of supporting academic success.

The Associate Director for Residential Life and Education is the senior professional staff member for the Residential Life and Education unit, responsible for coordinating all programs, budget, and staffing within the 24 residence halls and university apartment complex, currently serving approximately 7,000 students. The university has experienced significant growth over the last 15 years, and will continue to grow, at a managed pace, in its undergraduate and graduate enrollment. In addition, the department of Housing and Residential Life has constructed almost 1,800 new residence hall beds, closed and demolished several halls and apartments, and renovated a number of halls. The university has established a new campus master plan, which calls for additional construction and continued renovation.

Job Duties:
The incumbent has primary responsibility for establishing student learning outcomes for a Residential Curriculum model; developing and implementing formal living-learning community programs, personal development programs, and leadership development programs. In addition, the Associate Director will select, supervise, and train all staff, including five Assistant Directors, who supervise the Hall Director staff (plus other specific responsibilities such as staff selection, staff training, advising RHA, LLC, and Residential Curriculum programs), a Coordinator for Camps and Conferences, 5 Graduate Assistants, two Administrative Assistants, and over 200 student staff. The Associate Director will be responsible for an annual budget of $1.5 million. The Associate Director will also provide leadership in crisis situations and will coordinate a 24-hour staff on-call system.
