The University of Miami Facilities Management Department is seeking a Sr. Manager, Facilities & Operations. This is a leadership position responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback.

Manage assigned area maintenance program; assess maintenance problems, determine need for large scale projects, and recommend proposals as appropriate; review maintenance plans and specifications to ensure departmental requirements are met; inspect work in progress and evaluate completed projects to control costs and ensure work is performed as specified; represent department on all related projects.

Manage activities of a multi-craft team in providing maintenance and repair for buildings and related systems and facilities within an assigned campus area.

Manage budget for service area; monitor and ensure adherence to budget; apprise supervisor of variances; evaluate and control maintenance costs; monitor and verify accuracy of charges against service area funds; authorize expenditures within budgetary limitations; assist in managing other funds as assigned.

Investigate damages to facilities, determine responsibility and assess charges for damages; assist in development of related policies; coordinate room inspections upon vacancies.

Work closely with Facilities Design & Construction during project development and implementation phase. Reviews plans and specifications related to FD&C projects in the assigned area.

Required Skills:

This job requires advanced knowledge in facilities maintenance management, project management and supervision of trade craft personnel. Also required is a working knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements for building structures and components and the use of basic and specialized computer applications.

(Preferred) Specialized Skills:

Ability to oversee all daily activities of building control systems, central plant control systems, equipment, personnel, facilities and distribution systems including chillers, pumps, motors and auxiliary distribution equipment.

Working knowledge of the day to day operation and maintenance of the Building Energy Management Systems & Chilled Water Plants to meet safety, reliability and efficiency goals of the department by implementing and executing operation, maintenance and reliability best practices.

Functional operating knowledge of Building Management System (BMS) computerized controls system and translate program details into computer instructions to schedule equipment functions and diagnose mechanical problems. Also assist with design and cost estimates for changes. Recommend improvements, changes to new techniques and procedures to the operation.

Typical Job Duties and Key Responsibilities:

This position will supervise and interact on a consistent basis with: area maintenance staff, other facilities management employees, project managers, designers, engineers, vendors, contractors and customers.

This position typically will advise, oversee or give direction to: area maintenance staff, other facilities management employees, project managers, designers, engineers, vendors, contractors and customers.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate customer service activities and work orders for assigned area to include service calls, performance of planned and preventative maintenance, major repair and renovation projects.
  • Assure the optimal operation of all building components and systems within assigned area.
  • Coordinate work requirements with other Facilities units, contractors/vendors and other outside resources.
  • Provide estimates and budgets for minor and major project work, maintenance contracts, reimbursable work requests, and campus events.
  • Coordinate acquisition of required materials.
  • Supervise personnel. Schedule and assign employees and related resources and evaluate work performance.
  • Participate in recruiting new employees; coach, counsel, train and monitor development of staff.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education, Specialized Knowledge and Experience:

The Sr. Manager must have an educational background that meets the following criteria:

Degrees / Certification/ Experience Required for this job:

Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Construction or Business area of concentration, -OR- appropriate certification and training, plus eight (8) or more year’s industry experience in one or more of the maintenance/construction trades.

Degrees (Preferred) for this job:

Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a (Electronic, Mechanical or Electrical) engineering area of concentration, or an appropriate combination of education, certification and training, plus (8) or more years’ industry experience in management and operations.

Years of experience required for this job:

Eight years job related experience

Certifications or licenses required for this job:

Valid Florida Driver's License
