The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Physical Therapist. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include : Participates in multidisciplinary developmental evaluations/screenings to determine early intervention eligibility and develops individualized interventions goals, strategies and recommendations consistent with Florida’s Early Steps model. Performs evaluations based on standards of practice established by the APTA and Florida Early Steps. Evaluations and some intervention activities will occur in clinic, the home and/or child care settings. Documents all evaluation, treatments and other pertinent patient interaction, on a daily basis, in accordance with department policies and procedures. Provides relevant education to patient and/or family regarding the patient’s condition and instruction for home activities. Communicates with physicians and their staff; obtain necessary information and suggest revisions in treatment when deemed appropriate. Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner in accordance to department policies and procedures. Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity according to standards and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis, real clinic need and treatment. Participates in quality and safety improvement activities as directed. Orients instruct and direct work activities for assistants and support personnel. Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitoring response education, and adapting program appropriately. May provide clinical education experience for students as requested. Provides trainings for Early Steps staff and community providers. Attends educational programs and in-service training as required by administration. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal, local and state guidelines and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The minimum requirements are: Bachelor degree required. Current/valid FL Physical Therapist license required. One year of relevant work experience required in pediatrics. Knowledge of the principles and practices in the field of physical therapy. Knowledge of local, state, federal laws and regulations pertaining to physical therapy. Ability to plan the objectives, approach and work plan to accomplish goals in accordance with professional and departmental standards. Ability to supervise personnel in a manner conducive to effective performance and fostering high morale. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Patient safety is a top priority. As a result, during the Influenza ("the flu") season (September through April), the University of Miami School of Medicine requires all employees who provide ongoing services to patients, work in a location (all Hospitals and clinics) where patient care is provided, or work in patient care or clinical care areas, to have an annual influenza vaccination.
