The Associate Center Director for Clinical Investigation (ACD) will provide oversight of all clinical cancer research and the clinical cancer research infrastructure of the GW Cancer Center. The ACD will chair the Center's Clinical Research Leadership Committee and will serve on the Center's Executive Leadership Committee.

The Associate Director will hold a faculty appointment in the Division of Hematology & Oncology of the Department of Medicine in The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

As Chair of the Clinical Research Leadership Committee, the ACD will provide leadership for the Clinical Trials Office, the Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee, and the Data and Safety Monitoring Committee. The ACD will oversee a traditional Phase 1 clinical trials unit and will work to enhance minority participation in trials and reduce barriers to clinical trial activation.

The ACD will work closely with the Cancer Center Director to create Disease-Oriented Multidisciplinary Teams composed of experts from different specialties. Such teams bring together clinical expertise in treating a specific cancer type to provide state-of-the-art clinical care and serve as the epicenter for clinical/translational research activities on specific cancers. In addition, leading the development of intra- and inter-programmatic collaborations between clinicians and clinician-scientists will be a high priority.

As member of the Executive Leadership Committee, the ACD will also work closely with the other associate directors (Basic Sciences, Population Sciences & Policy, Patient-centered Initiatives and Health Equity, and Administration and Finances) to facilitate collaborations between basic, clinical, and population science Center members with the goal of implementing novel preventive, diagnostic, and treatment strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be Board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the time of appointment and be eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia. Applicants must have extensive expertise in clinical research as evidenced by training, publications, and extramural funding and a proven track record of teaching students, residents and fellows, as evidenced by experience and references.
