Posting Summary:
The Center for Public Health Genomics at the University of Virginia is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in statistical genetics to work on developing statistical methods and tools that apply to cutting edge human genetics and genomics research under the supervision of Dr. Wei-Min Chen.

The successful candidate will join a collegial and productive research team focused on developing the statistical and bioinformatic methods and tools for analyzing large-scale genome-wide sequencing and association datasets. Analytical responsibilities will include development of highly efficient methods/tools for inference of cryptic family relationships, establishment of extended pedigree/lineages, and increased power and resolution for mapping common and rare variants that contribute to human diseases.

Necessary qualifications include a doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, Genetics or other relevant discipline in hand by start date; knowledge of statistics and genetics; experience with programming languages (C/C++ and/or Perl/Python); a strong work ethic; the ability to work independently combined with willingness to work in a highly interactive and collegial group; and excellent written and oral communication skills. Desired qualifications include experience working with large-scale multi-center studies; working knowledge of existing tools for genetic analysis and data management; statistical software (R or Splus); and experience working in a Unix / Linux environment.
