Job Summary The Head of the Acquisitions Unit is responsible to the Head of the Acquisitions and Serials Services Department for supervising the operation of the Acquisitions Unit, which includes approvals, firm order, continuations receiving, monographic ordering, invoice processing, and managing PromptCat and DLC copy cataloging of monographs. This position hires, trains, schedules and supervises six full-time staff members, ensuring that procedures employed follow established standards for both quality and quantity of work produced are consistently met. The Head of the Acquisitions Unit is responsible for developing constructive work ethics in team efforts within the Unit and the Department. Additionally, the head of the Acquisitions Unit assists in the management of the Libraries' approval plans in collaboration with the Director of the Collection Development Department and serves other areas of the UGA Libraries as a resource person for activities within the Acquisitions Unit. Work is performed with an exceptional degree of authority, independence, and initiative in decision-making and creative problem-solving that requires careful interpretation and constant use of discretionary judgment. The Acquisitions and Serials Services Department is a service-oriented department of the University of Georgia Libraries that supports the Libraries' mission through the expeditious acquisition of library materials, regardless of type or format.
