Position Summary

The Department of Athletics is administratively housed in the Chancellor's Office. The Department of Athletics promotes the University's philosophy of a student-athlete through its affiliation with the NCAA Division I. Approximately 220 students participate in Intercollegiate Athletics. The goal of the Department of Athletics is to offer a competitive schedule regionally while striving toward national recognition.

The Advancement Office of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is responsible for developing and managing programs leading to private gifts which will support and advance the University's faculty, students, and programs. The Advancement Office also serves as central coordinator for all fundraising efforts on campus.

The primary purpose of this position is to work with alumni, friends, coaches, administrators, faculty and businesses to raise annual gifts for the Spartan Club. This position will also entail Special Projects. Projects will require close working relationships with volunteers, development officers, faculty, and other University officers as well as an understanding of academic and co-curricular program goals and objectives.

Functional Areas of Emphasis:

  • Athletics Advancement staff, Athletic coaches and staff
  • Internal and external donors, prospects and volunteers for University and Athletics-related events
  • Communication to donors, friends, and former student-athletes


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Fundraising

  • Actively solicit gifts under $1,000 and steward existing Spartan Club members with the goal of increasing their giving
  • Manage student membership program to generate funds for the Spartan Club
  • Launch senior gift fundraising campaign

Event Management and Operations

  • Oversee all Spartan Club/Athletic special events geared towards raising funds and stewarding/cultivating donors. Events will include but are not limited to: Scholarship Recognition Dinner, Golf Classic Fundraising Event, Hall of Fame, Homecoming, Alumni/Team Reunions, Basketball Pre-Game Receptions at Coliseum, On the Road Functions, Donor Recognition Event, Women's Weekend/Event

Stewardship

  • Ensure that all Spartan Club donors receive appropriate stewardship, recognition and benefits. Goal of stewardship program is to help maintain a high level of donor retention and also to encourage increased giving.
  • Coordinate student-athlete thank-a-thon.

Communications

  • Provide strategic direction and management for all Spartan Club communications, including: Annual Report, Spartan Club Brochure, Team Enrichment Fund Mailings, Donor/Season Ticket Holder E-Newsletter, Spartan Club Website, Video Production, Advertising, Team E-mail Groups, Social Media

Liaison with Ticket Office

  • Ensure smooth integration with the NeuLion system and ticket office; participate in weekly external affairs meetings.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in college athletics or related field, preferably in the areas of marketing, tickets, events and promotion, or fundraising.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekend and travel.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, Photoshop, and Ticketmaster software required, additional computer skills preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree.
  • Prior work experience at the NCAA Division I level.
