The Toppel Career Center’s mission is to empower and connect students to achieve a lifetime of career fulfillment. We are looking for a passionate and innovative individual to join our highly motivated team within a fast-paced environment. The Assistant Director of Career Education will work with the Toppel Career Center to provide career and professional development related activities and programs for University of Miami students.

The Center touches the lives of over 2/3 of all undergraduate students, and this position is responsible for outreach and walk-in advising services that serve as catalysts for the majority of student engagement with the Center. This position directly supervises the Career Education Graduate Assistant. Reporting directly to the Director of Career Education, the Assistant Director will lead the center’s efforts to build meaningful relationships with on-campus faculty and staff to increase our outreach to students at the university.

Career Education and Outreach
• Manage day-to-day operations for career outreach program; coordinate efforts with faculty, staff and student organizations and schedule Toppel Career Center staff to facilitate accordingly.
• Supervise Career Education Graduate Assistant who is directly responsible for supervising and evaluating 8-10 student Peer Advisors staffing the walk-in advising area.
• Collaborate with Associate Director of Career of Readiness to provide professional development to all Toppel student interns.
• Manage and facilitate ongoing training of Peer Advisors in these areas: critiquing resumes, conducting presentations, and increasing the Center’s marketing and outreach efforts on campus.
• Actively participate in using social media to market events and engage students and alumni; Specifically manage, coordinate, and publish weekly Peer Advisor Blog.
• Conduct and continue to redevelop the Toppel Orientation Workshops and related orientation programs.
• Manage Sebastian’s Closet professional clothing rental program by marketing to students, organizing student requests, and ensuring requests are fulfilled in a timely fashion.
• Assist Director with management of Career Education Program Series each semester.
• Assist Director of Career Education with management of resumes on career database system.
• Serve as liaison to assigned academic School/College.
• Develop, implement, and monitor outreach and peer advisor budget.
• Assist Director for Career Education with hiring and supervising Career Education team Graduate Assistant.
• Develop internal marketing plans focused at the UM community (including Faculty, staff, and student groups) that describe programs and services offered by the Toppel Career Center.
• Coordinate New Student Orientation programming with Department of Orientation.
• Conduct mock interviews with students and alumni.
• Assess graduating students’ job interests and qualifications; refer students to available career opportunities; assist students with preparation for the interview process.
• Assist undeclared students with major selection by conducting career assessment testing and follow up advising appointments.
• Assist in the department’s student assessment measures, including needs assessments and satisfaction surveys.
• Assist in the development of an internal marketing strategy for students through student organization leaders.
• Develop and implement internal marketing relationships with other departments in the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs.
• Provide extensive faculty and classroom outreach through classroom presentations, program facilitation, and program development as well as provide workshops at the Toppel Career Center.

General Responsibilities
• Maintain individual advising appointments and mock interviews on a weekly basis.
• Participate in meetings with Toppel staff members and Career Education staff members to improve communication and program implementation.
• Provide assessment and outcome information to Director on a monthly basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
