Professional Research Assistant
The Clinical Trials Center with the University of Colorado School of Medicine has 4 part-time/PRN positions at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Clinical Trials Center performs clinical research trials focusing on vaccines in adults and older adults for disease entities such as shingles and other viruses including influenza, pneumonia, and in this case, clostridium difficile.
The candidates filling these positions will act as unblinded preparers and administrators of an investigational C diff vaccine which is given in 3 doses over a period of 6 months for a research study looking at the effectiveness of this vaccine in preventing C diff. Unblinded personnel maintain vaccine accountability logs and the unblinded pharmacy binder and, other than administering the vaccine to the subject, have minimal contact with study subjects.
Enrollment of 100 subjects is expected to take place over a period of two years so workload will depend on how quickly the study accrues these subjects. Each subject will interact with the unblinded position for 3 visits over the course of 6 months.
This is an ideal position for someone wanting to get their foot in the research door, who has the flexibility to work an hour or two at a time, during daytime hours, M-F. Hours will depend on patient load, based on accrual of subjects at any given time. This could thus result in consecutive weeks without hours, and will result in very irregular hours. Current project estimates are that most weeks worked will have 4 or less hours, but this could change depending on patient load.
