Candidates must hold an MD and have certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or equivalent qualifications and should be qualified to hold a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in an appropriate clinical department at the University of Toronto. The Brain Sciences Program at Sunnybrook provides leadership in inventing the future of health care. Program management in the Health Sciences Centre is designed to facilitate collaboration and sharing of resources and expertise among cognate disciplines. This is especially applicable to disorders of the brain and mind that cross multiple medical departments, divisions and disciplines including the clinical departments of neurology, psychiatry, geriatric medicine, neurosurgery and ophthalmology. Critical support services include: neuroimaging, neuropathology, neuropsychology, and neurophysiology. Neurodegenerative disorders (dementias), vascular brain disease, traumatic brain injury, brain cancer and mood and anxiety disorders are examples of conditions that call for a multidisciplinary approach and do not respect the traditional boundaries of medical departments.
Sunnybrook plays a leadership role in the Ontario health care system and in caring for its community through eight comprehensive programs: Holland Musculoskeletal; Brain Sciences; Odette Cancer Centre; Women and Babies; Schulich Heart Centre; Trauma, Emergency & Critical Care; St. John's Rehabilitation Program; and Veterans and Community. Sunnybrook has identified four strategic priorities in: Trauma, Cancer, Heart and Stroke, and High-Risk Maternal and Newborn Health. Sunnybrook is committed to high quality inter-professional education and is the home of one of the University's four Academies for undergraduate medical education in addition to providing postgraduate and fellowship training in virtually all disciplines. The Sunnybrook Research Institute is one of the fastest growing hospital-based research enterprises in Canada with well-established programs in basic and applied research, conducting $100 million in research each year, developing innovations in care for more than one million patients annually, and passionate about providing rewarding educational experiences for more than 2,000 students each year.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience (range $250,000-$350,000).
