Position Summary

We desire a candidate who is adept at working with a diverse group of gifted students with varying abilities, and therefore is able to differentiate curriculum, individualize and compact instruction and ensure a depth of conceptual understanding. This position requires a dynamic individual who models a passion for and expertise in holistic education, and who can collaborate effectively with the grade-level team to develop and implement curriculum, track student progress, and group students for differentiation.

Essential Functions

  • Integrate curriculum and team teach around central themes, teach math and language arts skills in isolation and practice them in context.
  • Assess student development and performance using a variety of assessment techniques and models, tracking data to ensure growth.
  • Create a differentiated, high level curriculum, including participation on a school-wide curriculum alignment and development team (subject area to be determined based on interest and need).
  • Support the school mission through the active involvement in the school community and a vested interest in gifted education.
  • Proactively involve parents in their child's education, including positive outreach on both and seeking partnership in areas for improvement.
  • Support children in their holistic development through proactive social-emotional instruction and support.
  • Work with the school in a shift toward standards-based grading and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, creative classroom environment.
  • Set and participate in team goals focused on student growth and supported by growth data, and collaborate with specialists and student support team members as needed.
  • Work with an administrator in a data-informed coaching model around professional goals and participate in reflection on own performance on teaching rubric.
  • Monitor and assist students on playgrounds and at break times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
  • Valid teaching certificate/license in Elementary Education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate hours or Masters in education of the gifted.
  • Experience teaching gifted children and twice-exceptional students.
  • Experience teaching in a cross-curricular, integrated program.
  • Experience with Bridges to Mathematics, Reading / Writing Workshop (Teachers College), and integrated curriculum development.
