The Azusa Pacific University Department of Cinematic Arts invites applications for the position of Department Chair, appointment to begin August 1, 2017. The department, which consists of six full-time faculty members, offers a B.A. in Cinematic Arts, BFA in Cinematic Arts Production, BFA in Screenwriting, and an MA. in Screenwriting. The Department is in the process of launching a B.A. in Animation and Visual Effects as well as a B.A. in Digital Gaming and Interactive Media.
The Chair serves as the chief administrative officer of the department and provides leadership in the area of teaching, research, faculty engagement, student development, fiscal management, fundraising, and external affairs. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Music and the Arts (CMA) and works with the Dean's office on faculty recruitment and development, program assessment and curriculum development, student recruitment and retention, development, and budget management.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses and will, with the assistance of the undergraduate and graduate associate deans, coordinate affairs of the department. Applicants should demonstrate an active career in any field of cinema or related media. The successful candidate should also have prior leadership and/or administrative experience and should be able to demonstrate the ability to build consensus and inspire students and faculty. May be needed to work at alternative teaching sites.
Level: Associate or Full Professor. Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications: Earned terminal degree in a cinematic arts discipline or related field and a commitment to teaching excellence and industry connectivity.
Experience: Experience in higher-education teaching in cinema or related field. Demonstrated success in leadership. Experience in Christian higher education is especially desired.
Workload: 12-month contract.
