Plan, develop and execute with full administrative oversight for the operational activities of the department of Pathology. Provide overall management of operational and financial analysis, areas of space and facilities coordination, faculty effort reporting, administration for the faculty mentoring program, autopsy services, contract billing, and responsibility of special projects for department leadership. Supervision of designated staff.
Actively participate in key operational and strategic decisions of the department. Provide 'hands-on" and action oriented attitude to organize and lead administrative activities within the department. Ability to develop, manage and improve daily procedures and processes with a team approach and an inclusive perspective. Exercise initiative in providing project management skills to multiple areas within the department needing evaluation and assessment. Utilize technology to improve efficiencies. Strategize with the Chief Department Administrator and faculty leadership to develop plans for growth including new business development and operational optimization.
Prepare financial and operational analysis with recommendations to senior departmental leadership. In addition, enhance the efficiencies of clinical operations by implementing and managing new processes. Act as the liaison with the Duke University Health System regarding operational issues that impact the department.
Manage all aspects of contract billing arrangements to ensure it is done accurately and timely. Manage the accounting for any medical directorships with DUHS. Manage the reporting for the shared Core Research labs in the department. Assess financial activity and provide updated information for the annual rate analysis. Provide support for autopsy services as needed regarding business operations for DUHS.
Manage all aspects of the space and facilities planning within the department. Direct the analysis, coordination and negotiation of purchasing, maintenance, construction and renovation activities for the department. Work closely with E&O and vendors as necessary. Administer a program of property management and accountability for office space, lab space, shared resources, conference rooms, etc. Maintain liaison with all levels of administration, faculty and outside organizations.
Direct oversight of the Financial Assessment Management (FAM) process and ensure that the Internal Control Environment (ICE) document is accurately reflected and followed by the business office. In addition, work in partnership with the Sr. Business Manager to ensure proper internal controls are in place and functioning efficiently.
Supervise the effort reporting of the faculty through the ERCT system and provide guidance and training as requested. Work with the staff to ensure various effort reporting requirements are timely and updated accurately. Responsible for compliance requirements. Manage Total Professional Effort (TPE) analysis with faculty and update appropriate systems as necessary. Create a process of verification for new and existing faculty effort changes.
Design and implement the administrative management of a new faculty mentoring program. Create processes and systems for reporting and documentation. Work closely with department leadership. Collect and analyze reporting data from various academic programs in the department.

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.
Work requires a minimum of six years experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
MBA is strongly preferred.
Preferred skills in operational analysis, strategy planning, project management, Lean Six Sigma certification.
