AOI Biosensing Chair Professor
The AOI Chair professor in Biosensing will be a dynamic individual who will provide vision, leadership and guidance for a new program in the multidisciplinary field of biomedical sensing, research, and translational medicine. The faculty member will develop a national and international world class program in noninvasive sensor technology related to the biomedical field. The medical modalities can include laser sensors, photonics, applied electromagnetics, millimeter wave, and terahertz imaging, or closely related technology. The faculty member will work closely with multiple departments to assemble interdisciplinary teams to develop and investigate new sensor technologies and applications of biosensors. The College of Engineering is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
The AOI Chair professor will strengthen the long-term viability, efficiency, and effectiveness of research at the College of Engineering and in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as the teaching programs. In addition, the faculty member will promote collaborative research within the CoE and across MU, including the School of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The faculty member will lead and support external development opportunities; be an advocate for the college; promote the visibility and enhance the reputation of the department at the national and international level; establish cooperative opportunities with industry partners including AOI, and mentor faculty at different stages of their career.
Qualifications and attributes for the successful candidate include a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or a closely associated field. The candidate must have a demonstrated record of excellence in biomedical research or a related field. The candidate must have demonstrated effective leadership, management and communication with faculty, staff, and students as well as other leaders in electrical engineering, biophysics, biomedical, medical device sensor research areas, and technology. The candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to seek and obtain external funding.
