I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine is searching for a part-time Center / Institute Associate for the District of Columbia Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR). This position will support and coordinate activities of the Basic Sciences and Developmental Cores of the District of Columbia Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR), which is part of a network of 18 CFARs throughout the country supported by National Institute of Health (NIH) funds. The DC CFAR mission is to expand our multi-institutional effort to support research that contributes to ending the HIV epidemic in Washington, DC, and beyond, in partnership with local government and community. The DC CFAR is a unique "city-wide" model which unites the complementary scientific efforts of eight partner institutions in Washington, DC - The George Washington University, Georgetown University, Howard University, American University, the Children's National Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the DC Department of Health and Whitman Walker Health. The Program Assistant will support the research administration activities of the Basic Sciences and Developmental Cores. The Basic Sciences Core provides services and training in relevant basic sciences to DC CFAR investigators, including virologic and molecular, immunological and imaging services and training that are designed to support basic, clinical and translational research in HIV/AIDS prevention, detection and treatment. The Developmental Core administers a competitive pilot awards program and mentoring program to help support and promote innovative, collaborative and multidisciplinary HIV/AIDS research. Under the supervision of the Basic Sciences and Developmental Core leadership and in collaboration with the Administrative Core of the DC CFAR, this position will help plan and coordinate research activities and meetings, and track and report on Core activities.
Job Duties:
-Serve as primary liaison with the Administrative Core staff in supporting Core activities.
-Support Scientific Specialist in the scheduling of Core meetings and research activities.
-Assist in planning of Core events such as Journal Club sessions and research seminars and workshops. This may include making arrangements to publicize the event, corresponding with potential speakers, responding to inquiries pertaining to events, scheduling meetings, making room and tech requests, and coordinating catering.
-Coordinate with the core leadership the review and tracking of microgrant applications. Assist Core with activity tracking and support for the annual report and renewal application. Work with senior level faculty to identify service provision. Maintain electronic records of Core activities.
-Assist Core Director in the management of the Core including budget tracking and planning activities for Core administration.
-Coordinate Core membership meetings and other research activities.
-Assist core with activity tracking and support for the annual report and renewal application. Maintain and update service information on the DC CFAR website in coordination with the Admin core. Connect requests for core services to corresponding core providers. Assist Core with service and outcome tracking including publication compliance. Maintain electronic records on the number, type and source of requests for services.
-Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED, or equivalent combination of training and experience, is necessary plus 1.5 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop close working relationships. Strong time management skills, prioritization abilities, and organizational skills are a must. Proficiency with Microsoft suite of tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 1-3 years of experience in administrative research assistance or related field. A BA/BS in related discipline is preferred but not required.
