Job description

Duties: Leads the outreach and engagement with assigned faculty, staff and students of targeted departments on behalf of PCI to identify technologies and research programs with commercial potential. Evaluates and leads the triage of new disclosures and facilitate protection of new technology through patent protection or other forms of intellectual property protection, as applicable. Develops research collaborations with industry in partnership with other BD groups at PCI. Provides outstanding customer service. Leads the structuring (including technology valuation), drafting, negotiation and execution of agreements related to Penn intellectual property and tangible property rights with potential commercial partners as assigned. Develops and implements marketing and commercialization strategies for new inventions. Identifies and markets new technologies and high potential research programs to prospective licensees and/or commercial partners, with primary focus on assigned area(s). Performs due diligence on prospective licensees and/or commercial partners when identified. Works closely with PCI Ventures, Corporate Contracts and Corporate Alliances to develop and implement new sponsored research, corporate alliances and new venture opportunities for selected technology and faculty interest opportunities. Collaborates closely and communicate regularly with other members of the PCI staff and function effectively as part of a highly matrixed organizational team, with particular emphasis on developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships across PCI. Serves as a mentor to junior TLOs.

Qualifications: M.S. required, Ph.D./M.D. in a biomedical science strongly preferred plus 5-7 years related technology commercialization experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; Multi-disciplinary experience in university-industry technology transfer within one or more life and physical science disciplines; demonstrated track record of success negotiating and closing license agreements including significant completed deal sheet; experienced in all aspects of academic technology transfer; experience managing a large, diverse set of tasks and projects; excellent time management and prioritization skills; excellent verbal & written communication skills; strong attention to details, follow-through, strong commitment to teamwork & deal closing skills.
