About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Developer: Under general direction, formulates and defines the scope and objectives for new or existing applications or programs requiring custom development. Typically carries out assignments with minimal direction from a project manager or programming development manager. Works with stakeholders to gather requirements for developmental programs. Reviews and analyzes business and technical requirements. Designs applications to meet business and technical requirements. Translates specifications into business cases, models, and ultimately into designs and actual programming code. Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems and works at a high technical level in all phases of application development and programming activities. Works as part of a team with varying responsibilities for completion of an entire project or a phase of a project. Participates in component design, programming, code reviews, and unit testing. Designs and develops technology and models for development projects as assigned. Performs code testing on components and works to ensure appropriate implementation standards are met. Evaluates design alternatives for development cost and solutions using various methods. Typically works with business analysts, project managers, and end-users to ensure that delivery expectations are met. Provides support and maintenance for existing applications and participates in production support during business hours and occasionally off hours support. Resolves customer complaints and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements from end-users. Provides appropriate written documentation of project development and programming code. Essential Functions: Technical development and delivery: Create repeatable, transferable coding designs that can be leveraged for other solutions. Take proactive steps to ensure the team delivers high quality system releases that require little or no re-work. Provide estimates to complete tasks as needed. Manage work effectively to insure that project milestones are met or escalate issues as needed. Implement work standards to ensure that the team adheres to a SDLC methodology. Develop technical design based on functional requirements and design. Create and conduct unit testing following a standard methodology. System Support: Maintain existing integrated features and workflows. Help configure and monitor a nightly batch job system that processes numerous data feeds. Identify and resolve technical issues. Work with the software vendors and other IT Services departments to determine best method to resolve issues. Develop an understanding of Advancement business processes (e.g. alumni engagement, prospect management, data processing (bio/gifts). Other duties as assigned

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or another relevant computer related field required. ITIL Foundations certification preferred. Microsoft developer certifications preferred.

Unit Experience: Minimum three years of experience creating, implementing and supporting complicated, large scale solutions in a multi-tier environment, including the integration of a web product to other applications required. Minimum two years of experience performing dual roles of coding requests and working in production support required. Minimum two years of experience developing, implementing, supporting, and maintaining vendor supported systems required. Minimum one year of experience in stepping through the code of a vendor purchased application and its associated back-end processes and integrated applications in order to resolve production issues required. Minimum one year of experience working with databases and data integrity required. Extensive data mapping experience and understanding of metadata concepts required. Experience in coding as an ASP.Net application developer, JavaScript, Oracle, and PL/SQL required. Experience with Agile software development principles preferred. Experience implementing ETL processing and reporting systems preferred. Experience developing in HTML, CSS/LESS/SASS and frameworks such as Boothstrap and Angular JS or similar frameworks preferred. Experience with the Advance Web application (vendor: Ellucian) preferred. Experience in performing or supporting fundraising, development, and/or alumni relations activities preferred. Experience in a research university supporting an integrated vendor supported systems preferred. Experience with higher education preferred.
