Position Summary

Research Assistant Professor.  (East Lansing, MI).  Work across multiple domains of World Technology Access Program (WorldTAP) and African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE) project and will be responsible for research, training and outreach activities related to crop biotechnology, biosafety, food safety, technology transfer and commercialization of agricultural technologies that are relevant to Africa. Conduct research on biotechnology regulatory, intellectual property and technology transfer issues and potential of Michigan State University generated agricultural biotechnologies for commercialization and deployment in Sub-Saharan Africa.  Conduct research, analyze, develop and implement international capacity building programs and initiatives that are in line with ABNE's and WorldTAP's strategic goals and objectives; assess current biosafety regulatory and biotechnology research capacity in selected countries of Africa;  develop scholarly articles and papers for publication in peer-reviewed Journals; using the research data, develop presentations and modules for international programs and workshops offered by ABNE and WorldTAP; coordinate and monitor grants awarded to WorldTAP, especially related to Africa initiatives, and prepare reports, newsletter articles, policy briefs and web materials. 

Required Degree

Doctorate -Agriculture, Biochemistry, Plant Science

Minimum Requirements

Ph.D. in Agriculture, Biochemistry, Plant Science or related field + 1 year experience as Science Officer or related position in biotechnology research in Africa. Must have experience or education in biotechnology transfer research, project development, and grant seeking, must have knowledge of Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, Intellectual Property Rights and technology transfer issues related to plant biotechnology.
