This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
This position leads Circulation/Course Reserves operations on Sundays for an 8-hour shift between noon and 11pm and Mondays – Thursdays for an 8-hour shift between 2pm and 11pm during the academic semester. Hours will change during summer and between academic sessions. The activities that the incumbent leads during these hours include providing public service to library users, leading the work of student assistants, resolving public service and policy issues, searching for items not found by patrons in the collections, retrieving items requested from Compact Shelving, answering informational and basic reference questions, providing backup support to the Course Reserves Coordinator, guiding student assistants at other library public service desks during evening hours due to the absence of other staff, providing break/dinner relief as needed for student assistants at public desks, coordinating night shift and Sunday public security issues, reporting and addressing facility concerns, and assisting patrons in the Research Services area when the Research Services desk closes. Additionally, this person will provide some technical support for library equipment: cameras, laptops, cables and other items as they are added to the collection.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,101 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,101 - $5,369 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Incumbents at this level work independently to perform more complex technical tasks in a specified functional area within a library unit and may provide functional oversight for assigned area. Work requires them to be fully proficient in all aspects, methods, and procedures associated with their assigned functional area, including the ability to use judgment in interpreting policies and solving problems, and a general knowledge of overall library activities, policies and procedures. Incumbents also may be responsible for coordinating work of student workers assigned to the area and may participate in hiring, training, evaluating, and payroll processing of student workers.
These qualifications for entry to Position Skill Level II normally would be obtained through the completion of a high school education or equivalent certification plus two to three years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

- Ability to search SDSU Library’s online catalog to identify the availability and location of materials in our collections
- Experience using Library of Congress classification system
- Experience working in an academic setting
- Experience working in an academic library
- Experience working at a library’s circulation desk
- Experience leading the work of other staff, student assistants or volunteers
- Experience working with camera equipment and resolving simple equipment problems
- Experience in a service desk environment
- Experience working with computer equipment and resolving simple equipment and software problems
