Education Specialist, Upward Bound Math Science
Conducts individual and group sessions for academic, college, career and personal guidance. Works with target high school, appropriate college faculty/staff, parents, institutions of higher education, area agencies and area TRIO programs to facilitate services and activities with an emphasis on math and science that can lead to students’ high school graduation and matriculation into and graduation from college. Maintains accurate records concerning program activities and student academic progress. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Communication, Human Services, Sociology or related field required. Three years of full time experience tutoring, teaching and/or advising middle and high school students, of which one year includes assisting first generation, low income and minority participants and parent/guardians required. College admission and/or financial aid experience preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience in TRIO and background similar to the target population preferred. Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience including part time considered. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. This position is a Special Funding Grant until September 30, 2017. A work sample is required as part of the interview process. Hiring process includes a background check. Position is contingent upon MCC Board of Governors approval. NOTE: College degrees obtained outside the U.S. accepted only when interpreted by transcript service members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
