Nature of Work:
The primary purpose of this position is to be responsible for the management, decision making, and oversight of the Outdoor Education Program. The program consists of four main components including the adventure trip program, equipment rental center, indoor climbing and bouldering walls, and student development education and training.
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, physical education, or other related field; 2-3 years of practical experience in outdoor recreation, collegiate recreation, and supervising undergraduate students; strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the community at large are required.
Preferred: Master’s degree in higher education/college student affairs, sports management, recreation, or other related field; must be able to lead, train, and supervise individuals in various outdoor activities and settings; knowledge of specific activities and skills in backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, orienteering, and spelunking; understanding of risk management principles, industry standards in outdoor recreation.
Certifications preferred: ACA Kayak Instructor, AMGA/PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI), Base & Top Rope Instructor. CPR and First Aid Instructor, Swiftwater Rescue Technician
Salary $17.76 minimum - $25.07 midpoint
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Ability to stand, walk, and run for extended periods of time. Able to swim. Able to climb. Some lifting of weights up to 70 pounds.
