About the College/Department

Razorback Transit provides fare-free fixed route bus and paratransit service to all University of Arkansas students, faculty, staff and the general public during all hours of operation. Razorback Transit buses have wheelchair lifts and are air-conditioned. Full transit service is provided Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on class days throughout the Fall and Spring semesters (mid- August to mid- May) including final exam days. Reduced bus service is provided from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters (mid-August to mid-May). Saturday service is provided 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. during the same months. The last buses depart Union Station at 10:00 p.m except the Red route which departs at 9:00 p.m. Regular routes are not operated on home football game days. Reduced service is also provided from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday during the summer (mid May to mid August) and during the Christmas and New Year holiday break.

Summary of Job Duties

The Bus Operator is responsible for the safe operation of a large passenger motor vehicle and transporting passengers to specific destinations within the general area. This position is responsible for performing prescribed pre/post-operational safety maintenance checks; accumulating and recording statistics for daily reports on fixed route service; and must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. This position could be subject to shift rotation resulting in shift differential.

Regular, non-disruptive, and reliable attendance is an essential job duty, as well as the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • Must have a Commercial Drivers License
  • At least two years of experience in commercial driving

Preferred Qualifications

Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts or vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals or hazards. , The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation., The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
