Assistant Professor for Science Education
Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Professor, Biology Education. This is a full time, tenure track position in Science Education. Responsibilities include teaching courses in secondary science methods (Biology/General Science) and foundation education courses at the undergraduate level; developing new science education programs for approval (internal and external); prepares accreditation documents for new and existing programs in collaboration with Education faculty. Advises students, participates in and provides leadership in school initiatives, and supervises field experiences. Establishes and works with P-12 partners. Provides service to the school, the university, community and the profession; assists in student recruitment and retention initiatives for the School of Teacher Education. May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D) in Education from an accredited institution and completion of a teacher preparation program in science education required. Three to five years of teaching or administrative experience in P-12 public schools. Additional certification and endorsement areas desired: special education, ESOL, and/or reading. Experience with assessment and online assessment platforms (such as Live Text). Proficient in technology integration in teacher preparation requirements; online learning (such as Desire to Learn); demonstrated ability/skills in collegial teamwork, collaboration, and experience with inclusive practices in urban school settings. Experience with and strong commitment to working with low income/first generation students needing academic support, proactive advisement, and close mentoring. Strong team/building and interpersonal skills; motivation to collaborate with others on new initiatives, interdisciplinary projects and grants; leadership skills to follow through on initiatives. Background and/or credit check may be required.
