About the College/Department

The Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center is a family-centered program housed in a facility designed to provide for best practices in early childhood education and to enhance the learning experience for university students. Its three-fold mission is to provide a model early childhood education facility for children from eight weeks to five years, to serve as a teaching laboratory for students studying in the area of Human Development and Family Sciences and other disciplines, and to serve as a research facility for faculty and graduate students.

Summary of Job Duties

The Assistant Infant/Toddler Teacher, under the immediate supervision of the Lead Teacher, will join the Lead Teacher in designing and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum for the ages, stages, and individual needs of the children in her/his care. This emergent curriculum, based on best practice, will ensure the acceptance of the value of all children and families and maintain program-adopted assessment practices. The Assistant Teacher will model for and mentor undergraduate students and hourly aides. Additionally, the Assistant Teacher will adhere to the standards of NAEYC accreditation, Better Beginnings, and state licensing regulations; follow faculty guidelines to enhance the learning experiences of University of Araknasas lab students; provide an aesthetically pleasing, healthy and safe, well-maintained physical environment that stimulates a child's learning and encourages a child's creativity and self-expression; create and maintain an open, professional dialogue with parents and colleagues; and contribute to the overall growth of our program and team.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

  • Involved with professional development and a member/participant of an early childhood organization

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Child Development or Birth through Kindergarten, or a comparable degree such as bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education
