Job Description

Position: Lab Assistant

Reporting Relationship: Lab Manager

The Lab Assistant is responsible for testing products, making samples and reporting the results. The essential role of this position is to: • Ensure all products meet PTI standards for stability, safety, and performance. • Record results and documents. Daily observations on products undergoing testing. • Generate reports for each product tested. • Maintain and file completed reports. • Perform quality tests on incoming raw materials. • Provide support for manufacturing in a timely manner. This will involves activities such as weighing dyes and verifying that the data base is properly updated as changes may occur. • Calibrate Lab equipment and maintain calibration logs. • Pack samples for PTI PD&D, customer, supplier as directed.

Job Responsibilities & Key Emphasis

• Develops an understanding of "The Candle System" as well as candle raw material properties and limitations. • Work with Lab team to prepare to produce high quality samples and production samples on a timely basis. • Test candle product in development and pre-production stage according to established protocols to ensure that product is optimized for safety and burn performance. • Responsible for compilation and maintenance of testing reports and records. • Communicate & share testing results/reports with PTI, lab and factory as needed. • Investigate and determine cause of faulty work and consult and advise production & lab supervisor/technician as to corrective measures. • Continuously learn from lab technicians.

Skills Required:

• Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word & Excel. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and active timelines. • Good documentation skills and attention to detail. • Sound knowledge in lab practices and housekeeping. • Science degree preferred. • Experience in process/product development or laboratory position in a manufacturing environment preferred. • Knowledge in the use of a wide variety of measuring instruments. • Demonstrated ability to work independently. • Proven problem solving and analytical skills required. • Self motivated, goal oriented, assertive and a proven track record in exceeding job objectives. • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are required in this deadline-driven environment. • Committed to the highest level of ethics, determination, and a "desire to succeed". • Quality oriented and attention to detail.
