Director, Data Management Strategy ExecutionPURPOSE

The Data Management group is responsible for driving the overall data strategy and data management goals for RBC CM. The team is accountable for ensuring that the organization is aware of our data intent, that all of our solutions are aligned to our intent and that we are consistently delivering value to our business teams through our active work and influence. The Data Management team is accountable for the implementation and maintenance of the reference data that is used in our operational processes, accountable for maturing our data governance controls as well as participating actively in business and regulatory initiatives that have a significant data impact.

This role will:Lead the articulation and maintenance of a Capital Markets Data Management (CMDM) strategy, working with the existing pillars in the DM team
Work with our business partners to translate, interpret and incorporate Capital Markets' business strategies into the overall DM strategy
Identify, analyze and address strategic issues, opportunities and potential threats that face the group
Run the DM's Strategic Planning Process and Initiatives Portfolio Review, fostering strong strategic thinking and dialogue amongst Business and Functional teams
Partner with the Finance Performance Management team with respect to financial management, translating strategic drivers into financial impacts and maturing internal capabilities to demonstrate value through financial metrics
Lead the analysis of existing operating models, evaluate new business initiatives and undertake scenario planning as well as review and evaluate industry changes that may influence practices
Drive resolution of issues around operating strategy and execution, identify opportunities for improved process and integration across team and geographies
Interface with other RBC entities and enterprise initiatives as they relate to data strategy and advancement


Strategic PlanningLead process to review/enhance a global operating strategy that addresses the operating model, business architecture, communications and effectiveness
Translate business strategies into the global operating strategy, identifying opportunities to enhance and progress
Align annual budgeting process with planning activities
Provide leadership and support to DM executive and senior leadership team in developing action plans and tactical roadmaps for execution of new strategic initiatives

New Initiatives Evaluation & Prioritization

Engage with business and functional partners to understand upcoming and new initiatives that will need to be addressed
Coordinate efforts across DM to perform impact assessment analyses for new initiatives
Identify overall levers of new initiatives and facilitate prioritization against existing portfolio
Participate in Project Review Committee to understand and provide insight to pipeline of upcoming work
Lead monthly review of DM initiatives portfolio, measuring progress, priotizing and making recommendations to re-prioritize as necessary
Track and communicate strategic value and advancement that is being achieved through efforts

Communications & Effectiveness

Continue to evolve DM's communications strategy to ensure consistency of messaging both internally and externally
Look to enhance communications vehicles to business partners leveraging a variety of delivery mechanisms
Support efforts to continually improve employee effectiveness



Strong consulting skill set: strategic thinking and ability to identify key drivers, core assumptions, and significant trends, acquired through a minimum of 10 years experience in a financial services strategy or execution function
Solid understanding of data strategy and data management practices
Demonstrated business acumen and strong understanding of business, data and operational strategies
Extensive experience with the development and implementation of projects involving multiple and complex data sets
Demonstrated ability to build and execute strategic plans across a geographically dispersed organization
Track record of strong leadership, influencing and facilitation skills
Strong capabilities in developing concise, impactful presentations that are appropriate to varying levels of audience
