CUNY is embarking on a University-wide Administrative Excellence Transformation initiative, with goals to improve the quality of the University's administrative services and to create efficiencies to reinvest in our strategic priorities.

Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Budget and Finance and Chief Financial Officer, the University Chief Transformation Officer is part of the Office's executive leadership team and has a broad scope of accountabilities. The Chief Transformation Officer will work with the University's and colleges' administrative leaders to identify administrative excellence opportunities, ensure that they are executed in a timely and comprehensive manner, and communicate progress and results to the University community.

The University Chief Transformation Officer will develop and lead a highly capable Transformation Office that provides timely visibility into the progress and delivers on the agreed transformation plan. He/She will collaborate with the University leadership to drive execution of transformation initiatives across the University

  • Works with the University Chief Financial Officer, senior leadership, and project team members to define project architecture, translating aspirations into initiatives and projects.
  • Establishes effective management routines to integrate projects, keep work on track, conduct key analyses, identify issues early enough to course correct if needed, communicate results; and design and implement the corresponding solutions.
  • Tracks financial progress against commitment (both savings and spending), supported with progress dashboards.
  • Creates processes to fairly, efficiently and transparently manage Human Resource implications of the transformation.
  • Develops and executes change management and communication plans to successfully move the organization to the desired state.
  • Leads working sessions within the Transformation Office; collaborates with initiative leaders and key functional leaders to support initiatives through implementation, including tracking progress, designing and monitoring key metrics, tracking performance against milestones, and providing change management guidance.
  • Develops fact-based recommendations and presents them to senior management to enable critical decisions.
  • Coordinates with University leadership to ensure appropriate management and execution against defined metrics and milestone for transformation initiative.
  • Ensures the success of the transformation projects and communicating status, progress, and issues to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and professional attributes:

  • MBA or other advanced degree with ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Strong analytical, computer, and financial analysis skills with experience analyzing data and budgets to drive decision-making and sound business judgment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, with ability to lead and manage teams, and use strategic and tactical judgment to make decisions and handle various situations.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, ability to help others organize problem solving.
  • Strong presentation, consultation and group facilitation skills with experience presenting to a wide variety of audiences including executives.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively and collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently establish plans and successfully execute multiple assignments with conflicting priorities and concurrent deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong networking and influencing skills.
  • Knowledge of higher education procedures, systems and operations.
