FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Social & Behavioral Science (SBS) at Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in History to begin Fall 2017. Applicants with experience in teaching or research in the growth and development of the history of the United States, African-American history and culture, African-American women's history, comparative history of slavery in the Americas, history of the Black Civil Rights movement, history of the Caribbean, and a demonstrable interest in interdisciplinary research are especially encouraged to apply.

Medgar Evers College, a senior CUNY college, offers associate and baccalaureate degrees with an enrollment of over 6,000 students and is located in Central Brooklyn. The SBS Department is dedicated to promoting student success, one student at a time, and therefore prefers faculty who are creative in innovative educational strategies to mentor students to be well-rounded social science professionals.

The position requires teaching, student advisement/mentoring, curricula and new degree program development, college service in committees, and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions, as well as active research and scholarship. The successful applicant must demonstrate the ability to teach introductory and advanced History courses. The position also offers opportunities for interdisciplinary work and collaboration with faculty in the School of Liberal Arts & Education, and other faculties.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
