The Department of Computer Science at The George Washington University, founded in 1980, has been providing excellent educational and research experiences for thousands of students. The Department, which includes 18 full-time faculty, numerous affiliated and adjunct faculty members, and over 650 students, offers B.S., B.A., M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in Computer Science, and an M.S. degree program in Cybersecurity. The Department is on a growth trajectory with strong focuses in security, systems, networks, graphics with biomedical applications, multimedia, AI, robotics, machine learning, NLP, imaging, and search.

The Department invites applications for one or two full-time visiting teaching faculty positions (open rank), for one year starting Fall 2015. It may be possible to extend the position for a second year. The Department is looking for applicants who enjoy teaching and mentoring students, and have an interest in, as well as aptitude for, new pedagogical approaches and who will participate in accreditation activities, and participate in continuous curriculum assessment and improvement.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

• We expect the visitor to participate fully in the life of the department - teaching, supporting student projects and clubs, attending faculty meetings. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body.
• The appointee would be expected to carry a full teaching load of 3/3 or equivalent in courses at a range of levels, from the introductory level to advanced undergraduate electives. We have a special need in the teaching of the introductory programming sequence and the senior capstone project, though it may also be possible to teach graduate-level courses.

Minimum Qualifications:

The required qualifications for the position include a PhD or comparable doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related area. ABD applicants will be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2015.
