Job description

Duties: We are currently seeking a highly motivated translational research scientist with a background in neuroscience or drug discovery for CNS diseases. Research performed at GTP (Gene Therapy Program) ranges from basic research and manufacturing of vector technologies to translational focused pre-clinical novel gene therapy development and efficacy testing. The Senior Research Investigator (SRI) hired for this position will lead the development of novel therapeutics, be responsible for in-depth knowledge of relevant biology related to the therapeutic target as well as animal models and cell models used to test therapeutic efficacy.

This position offers the opportunity to interface broadly internally and externally across diverse functional areas. The scientist will work to accomplish project goals within specified timelines and work cross functionally between multiple teams (Research, Vector Production, and Quality Control) within GTP, while also working with external sponsors (pharma and biotech communities) to develop the pre-clinical research plan.

The scientist will serve as a technical/scientific subject matter expert and be responsible for leading a team of technicians that assist with the execution of experiments. The scientist will be responsible for design, optimization and implementation of complex experiments. The SRI is expected to lead research plan development, oversee execution of experiments, carry out lab-based work, write manuscripts, prepare presentations, and establish collaborations.

Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of direct laboratory experience after the completion of the PhD degree in the field of neurology or neurological diseases, familiarity with AAV technology or gene therapy required. The successful candidate must thrive in a team environment, have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and proficiency with standard methods of data analyses.
