Working Title: Executive Director of Advancement

Position Type: University Executive Staff

Department: University of Virginia Library

Location: Charlottesville

Posting Date: 05-18-2017

Posting Summary:
The Executive Director of Advancement will be a member of the Library's leadership team and will work directly with the Dean to develop strategic goals and fundraising priorities, which will include the renovation of Alderman Library as part of the University's Bicentennial Capital Campaign. He/she will lead the Library's Advancement team to engage prospects, to collaborate with faculty and staff within and beyond the Library, and to develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for annual giving, major gift solicitations, and other fundraising efforts. As a front-line fundraiser, the Executive Director of Advancement will develop and manage a portfolio of current and prospective major-gift level donors ($100K+) and move them towards giving levels that achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals of the University Library. The bicentennial celebrations will provide a unique opportunity to leverage the Library's singular role in documenting the University's history, and to engage donors in the opportunity to shape a new library for the University's third century.

The successful candidate will have at least four years of demonstrated success in fundraising, ideally in a higher education or library setting, and possess a high degree of initiative and creativity, the ability to lead and inspire others, and the skills to engage donors with a passion for stewarding scholarship and the cultural record. A bachelor's degree is required and master's or higher is preferred
